Summer Witnessing Campaign

Here we are with the Campaign Team on the very first Sortie of the 2012 Summer Witnessing Campaign.  The Front of our Shirts say: Jesus Made Me Kosher in English and Hebrew. On the back of our shirts is a QR code.  Which is connected to the Jew for Jesus website. So  people are scanning our shirts!  This year Stewart and I are working behind the scenes following-up with those Jewish people who give their contact information to learn more about who Jesus is.

This is Mark, a co-worker from South Africa, Handing out Gospel Broadsides.  This Hassidic man doesn't look very interested. But...you never know......
                        Awesome News
A Hassidic woman phoned   our office last week.  She wanted to ask questions about Jesus.  She has been reading the New Testament and has come to the conclusion that Jesus is her Messiah.  She wanted to know if I (Shosh) thought God would punish her for believing in Jesus.  We have met twice now.  She is growing in her understanding of the Bible.  Please pray for her protection as no one in her community knows about her faith. She may lose everything if exposed. I am not sharing her name to protect her privacy.

We Praise God for your generous gifts towards our support with Jews for Jesus as we share the Gospel here in New York City.  Be encouraged to date: We have handed out 188,000 Gospel Broadsides.  And 103 unbelieving Jewish people have given us their contact information for follow-up.  Please pray for the men and women Stewart and I (Shosh) meet with.  Pray they will understand the Gospel and believe Jesus is their Messiah! The Fields are Ripe Unto Harvest

We are rejoicing at the salvation of Ilene, Vladimir and Valentina.  Last week Stewart had the joy of leading these three precious Jewish people to Jesus.  We are amazed at this season of fruit bearing here in New York City.  Thank you for standing with us as we press on here!

Melissa was here for a quick visit last week. She is about to celebrate her 25th Birthday.  Here is a photo of Stewart and Melissa on the Staten Island Ferry.

Shosh is looking for creative ways to meet the Jewish people in our community.  Recently she took a course at the Board of Elections and is now a NYC Poll Worker.  On her first day "at the polls"  she meet quite a number of Jewish neighbors.  By the end of their 17 hour work day all her co-workers knew about Shosh's faith and position with Jews for Jesus. Please pray for the new relationships from this day.

We praise God for your partnership as we press on here in
New York City sharing the Gospel with our Jewish people.
Your prayers and financial support are important to us.

What Must I do to be Saved?

Stewart and I returned to New York City on April 7th.  We are grateful for the many new friends we met during our tours.  God graciously raised up new prayer partners and donors.  We are encouraged!

The first day Stewart came back into the Jews for Jesus office, he received a phone call from an elderly Jewish man, Irwin.  This is a summary of that phone conversation:  "What must I do to be saved?".   Irwin had heard the Gospel.  But did not know how to respond.  Stewart made an appointment to meet with Irwin the next day.  After some conversation and Bible study, Irwin prayed to receive Jesus.  What joy!

We should all be encouraged.  There are people all over this planet who have heard the Gospel and but have not been able to connect the dots.  If we are available and willing God may use us to bring some of these precious people into eternity.

John 4:35  "Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest."

Please continue to pray for Stewart and I as we settle back into the ministry God has entrusted to us here in the Big Apple.  Here are the names of three new Jewish Believers.  Please pray they will be grounded in their new faith and that God would grant us opportunity to disciple them.
Rachel: Pray for protection as she has left the Orthodox Community.
Herman:  Pray for his wife Sophie who is in Hospice and hostile.
Irwin: His heart condition will be healed.

Please pray we will effectively communicate the Gospel and that God will raise up new prayer warriors and financial partners as the result of these tours.  It is a privilege to represent the ministry of Jews for Jesus.

Kosher Jesus

America's Rabbi Shmuley Boteach has come out with a new book "Kosher Jesus".  This book has created quite a stir in the Jewish community.  They are angry with Rabbi Boteach for publishing this book.  Check out this link to the Anti Missionary organization, "Jews for Judaism"(this organization was founded as a reaction to Jews for Jesus.)  http://www.jewsforjudaism.ca/resources-info/response-to-shmuley-boteach-s-kosher-jesus here you can gain a bit of understanding as to why the Jewish community is upset with Boteach.

On March 13th Dr. Michael Brown (a Jewish Believer in Jesus) and Rabbi Boteach participated in a lively debate in Manhattan.  This wasn't their first debate. In fact Dr. Brown has been debating Rabbi's on the topic of Jesus being the Jewish Messiah for years.  You can find videos of quite a few of these debates online.  A group of us from Jews for Jesus attended the debate along with many unsaved Jewish people.  Dr. Brown gave a very clear Gospel presentation.  Praise God for how He uses those who oppose Jesus to further the Gospel.

While we strongly disagree with Rabbi Boteach and don't want to support him with our money.  I confess to purchasing this book "Kosher Jesus".  Why?  For Table-top evangelism.  Another Jewish believer and I went to an Israeli restaurant for lunch and laid the book on the table.  We prayed God would give us opportunity to enter into a conversation.  And He did!  Because of the book sitting in plain view, the owner of the restaurant told us he went to Hebrew University with Rabbi Boteach in Jerusalem.  He also said, "He eats here"  "He always sits right there."  Eli pointed to a table in the back corner of the restaurant.  We had a good conversation about the Messiah-ship of Jesus and I challenged Eli to think for himself and told him where to find Messianic prophecies in his Jewish Bible.

Please pray that Eli and all those who hear the Gospel in spite of Rabbi Boteach's attempt to make Jesus  essentially, Rabbi Rambo, not God incarnate would consider the claims of the Biblical Jesus to the end that they will be saved!

Hassidic Ministry

Last week a co-worker and I went to Williamsburg, Brooklyn to a Hassidic neighborhood.  We went to the 21st floor of this building working our way down knocking on every door that had a meh·zoo'·zeh  (Jewish religious article put on the doorpost of homes).  If no one answered we left a Yiddish tract with Isaiah 53 which has a phone number for those who may want more information about Jesus.

This photo was taken in the Subway Station of the F Train on our way to Washington Square Park to hand-out Gospel Broadsides.  It is always striking to see these "Old World" people in urban settings.

Taken from our vehicle as we were about to leave Williamsburg.

Have you heard about this
book by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach?

The Jewish community is very upset at the publication of Rabbi Boteach's latest writing.  However, this book is a great evangelism tool for us.  Last week we sat in an Israeli restaurant on 34th St.  We put a copy of the book on our table hoping to engage someone in a conversation about Jesus.  And we did!  The Israeli owner of the restaurant said, "He (Rabbi Boteach) eats here."  We engaged in a 10 minute conversation about the identity of Messiah.  Please pray that  Eli will investigate the Hebrew Scriptures for himself.  He told us, "I wait for the Rabbis to tell me who Messiah is".
