Summer Campaign 2013

Here is our team at Times Square. Stewart was speaking at a church and missed the photo shoot. As I write we are in the 4th and final week of Campaign. To date we have handed out 30,000 broadsides and 72 Jewish people has asked for more information about Jesus. Please keep us in prayer this week. We want to end strong!  Pray for Alex, Jill, Cory and Ayn.  They have heard the Gospel but not yet believed.

This is Deborah.  She recently prayed with Shoshannah to receive Jesus.  What joy!  Deborah and Shosh have been meeting weekly for Bible study.  This is a great answer to prayer.  Thank you for praying that we bear fruit for the kingdom of God.  We are grateful.

Another Jewish ministry in Queens left leaflets on the doors of apartments in Queens a few weeks ago.  A Jewish woman, Julia found a leaflet on her door and decided to go on the Jews for Jesus website.  She had heard of Jews for Jesus for some time but had never connected with us.  Julia left her contact information on our website and Stewart called her.  During their first phone conversation Stewart explained the Gospel clearly.  Julia responded by receiving Jesus as her Messiah.  We praise God for how He uses various members of His Church to bring people to salvation.

Family News Edition

Jonathan lives with us in NYC and works as a professional dog-walker.  He had to be bonded and insured as he goes into apartments when people are at work.  Jon enjoys this job as he walks about 6 hours a day.  And, he likes dogs. Jon has a college education but has not been able to figure out what to do with his life. He has considered going to grad school but doesn't want to do that until he figures out what he wants to pursue as a career.  Jon would not call himself a believer in Jesus.  He has struggled for many years trying to experience God and now says he doesn't know if God exist.  Please pray for Jonathan to experience God.  We are confident God has a plan for Jonathan that is good.

Here we are showing off the Tee-shirt Melissa had made for Stewart
Most of you may know our daughter Melissa is a Youth Leader at Jews for Jesus on the West Coast.  She lives and serves works on staff with Jews for Jesus in San Francisco while attending college at San Francisco State.  All camp staff have "Camp Names".  Melissa has held the name, "Streetlight" for quite a few years.  Probably because Melissa lights up a room with her winsome smile and energetic personality.  When we first joined the staff of Jews for Jesus we were often referred to as "Streetlight's parents".  The name "Papa Streetlight" evolved from that.  This year as a Fathers Day gift Melissa had this shirt made for Stewart.

Stewart and I are enjoying good health.  We are always on a diet and still working out.  In fact while I am writing this blog, Stewart is at the gym.  If you have heard about Citibike.com you know that we have great access to using bikes here in the Big Apple. We joined Citibike and are enjoying using it for general transportation.

Pray for our safety as we commute.

                                                                                              Our Parents

Both of our Moms turned 80 this year.  My mom, Lois and her husband Ed are
both experiencing a fair amount of health problems.  They have heard the Gospel but not believed.  My Dad, Jerry died two years ago and that was a hard loss as my father did not believe in God.

Stewart's Dad died almost 3o years ago.  His mother, Rita lives nearby in New Jersey.  This past weekend we had a birthday party for her. Here is Rita with her 3 boys. Philip, Stewart & Gary. None of Stewart's family believe in the Lord.

Our Summer Witnessing Campaign began today here at the NYC Branch of Jews for Jesus.  Our theme this year is: "The Time is Now".

“In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.”  Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation."
2 Corin. 6:2

Stewart and I are "Team Weinisch".  We are handling the follow-up of those people our campaigners meet on the streets.  Please pray for us to reach those Jewish people God is calling to Himself.

Thank you for continuing to pray for and support the ministry God has entrusted to us among our Jewish people.  You are a blessing to us!

On The Road Again

It is Passover Season and that means Stewart and I are on tour.  I have a Smart phone and so I have been able to capture some of my trip.  Stewart still has that old faithful flip phone so you won't be seeing any photos of him until he gets back to NYC.

I am in Oklahoma and Arkansas this year.  Stewart is in Ohio and Pennsylvania.  We are doing a lot of driving.  Please pray for safe travel and effective ministry.  Also that God will raise of new prayer warriors and givers to support our Jews for Jesus fund as we press on to, "Make Jesus an unavoidable issue to our Jewish people worldwide."

For this reason I also suffer these things, but am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day. 2 Tim 1:12

What a Joy to visit with an old friend from Beth Shofar and see
how God has faithfully answered prayer for this precious family.

Tote n-n-Poke?
They don't have filling stations like this in NYC!
It must be Oklahoma or was it Arkansas?

Taken at a Seder in Hatfied, Arkansas where I stayed on the "Fields Ranch"
for two nights.  My host were a wonderful godly couple married for 52 years.  I so enjoyed the fellowship and the beauty of God's creation.
Thank you Ronney and Carol!

Last Saturday Jewish people around the world celebrated Purim.  This holiday commemorates the book of Esther from the Jewish Scriptures.  One of the things we seen in this story is that God uses improbable or unlikely people to accomplish great things.  Esther certainly was an unlikely hero.  We celebrate by reading the book of Esther or acting out the book in the form of a play.  Traditionally children and some adults come to services dressed up as Esther, Mordecai or Haman.  In recent years the Jewish community has celebrated this holiday as more of a costume party.  And pretty much anything goes.  So you could see Darth Vader posing as Haman and Sleeping Beauty as Esther.  We have even seen the Seinfeld characters acting out the play.  Our Jews for Jesus staff decided to hit the streets in two Jewish neighborhoods the last week to interact with people about Purim and unlikely heroes.
We asked this man, "Do you have a hero?"  This gave us opportunity to talk with people about Jesus.
When Shosh asked these kids who their hero was, they replied, "Our Dad!"  They put  his name on our board and then we took a photo of them with our board and emailed it to their Dad.
Here is the celebration at our congregation last week.

Please pray that those people to whom we extended
ministry will consider the fact that Jesus who laid down his
life for all of humanity was the greatest hero ever!

Lucy

On Thanksgiving weekend Shoshannah met Lucy.  Lucy is the mother of Amer, one of our co-workers here in NYC. Amer and his siblings had shared the Gospel with Lucy for over 20 years.  Shoshannah challenged Lucy to take a step of faith.  They looked at Ephesians 2:8-9. "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;  not as a result of works, so that no one may boast."

Shoshannah told me (Stewart) about the conversation.  I decided to ask Amer if I could call his mother, Amer said, “Yes!”.  After our initial phone conversation  Lucy said I could call again.  And I did.  Every week I called Lucy and answered her questions about the Messiah.  During our fifth phone visit Lucy prayed to trust Jesus as her Lord.  Was Amer excited! Me too!   Amer shared his excitement with our JFJ staff.  Amer said his mom had called everyone in the family using Facetime on her new iphone to profess her faith in Jesus.  What a great encouragement for us to not grow weary in sharing the Gospel.  I still meet with Lucy weekly for discipleship.  She is growing wonderfully.

Here we are at the Macy's Thanksgiving Pre-parade inflation of the balloons.  We handed out Broadsides and gave away hot chocolate!

Eddie and Stewart at Beth Messiah

This photo is a bit blurry, but it is all we've got.  Eddie came to faith right after Hurricane Sandy.  He is reading the bible and growing in his faith.  Eddie would tell you God has answered specific prayers on his behalf.  Eddie has many challenges ahead.  Please pray for his health as he suffers from quite a list of ailments.  Also for his housing and financial needs which are great.  We are trusting God to provide everything Eddie needs.

"And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his
glorious  riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus."  Phil 4:19

Shoshannah and Stewart 2013
.
We greet you in the Wonderful Name of our Messiah Jesus.  "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Messiah"  Eph. 1:3

We are rejoicing at the salvation of more than a few Jewish people over the last few months.

Eddie is a Jewish Man from Peru.  He came to faith in November.  He is now attending a Messianic Congregation and growing in his faith.  Eddie asks for prayer for permanent housing and health.

We have also seen two Jewish women, both over 55 years old pray to receive the Lord.  They are both with Stewart for weekly Bible study deepening their spiritual roots.  Such joy!  We don't have permission to give you details on these two precious saints, but in future post we hope to be able to do that.  In the meantime, please pray they will be established in their new faith.

We have finally made a decision to worship at Beth Messiah Congregation in New Jersey where Stewart served as interim Rabbi many years ago.  Yep, we drive out of Manhattan in to the suburbs of New Jersey each Saturday morning.  Two Jewish men Stewart led to the Lord in the last year ride with us each week.  Here is a recent photo taken after the worship service.
Good Fruit
Stewart has had a role in the lives of each of these faithful men.  In fact he has led two of them to the Lord.  Herman, next to Stewart on the right came to faith last Spring.  Jeff on the far right came to faith about 17 years ago while Stewart served as the leader of Beth Messiah. Eric on the left, is a second generation Jewish Believer and the son of Elaine who was Stewart's secretary almost 30 years ago.
